About The Artist

I am a freelance artist who works with sound, words and image. I like to travel, drink various alcohols and smoke the occasional Camel. When I’m not doing whatever odd jobs that are thrown my way I expand the creative world of GeoSolus Dark Arts.

Here are some thoughts from a friend:

When Geoff first found me out on myspace to be honest I was not quite sure what to make of him. His profile suggested something sort of dark and ominous which at the time I was trying very hard to stay away from. I sort of met him at a weird time in my life and I was changing and moving into a more healthy direction (for myself)…. Anyway once I got by the green skin and the visual illusion created I found that although he sometimes really pissed me off and our conversations could be quite contentious… at the very least… he was honest about his emotions and how he felt about things… and he seemed to have a very concrete set of values that even though I did not entirely agree with… I could at least understand given his history and also come to accept. And most importantly when it counted he could be down right nice…  and I respect his art… if I didn’t I wouldn’t be doing this… I quickly grew to appreciate his style, musical presence, and the meaning of his words… Geoff has a wicked sense of humor…. But he is also very deep and very aware of what is going on and is incredibly intelligent.

Growing up in Scotland (born in 1977) and graduating from the school of hard knocks “Geo” began to form. Geoff would tell you that his family life was not good and that certain family members were worse than others. However, this only served as inspiration to channel that into music. Geoff told me the first album that really resonated with him was “appetite for destruction” by guns and roses. The fierceness of the music and the extremely provocative artwork that was the original cover was a perfect match for a tough Scottish kid like him. Geoff moved to France with the family in 1989, taught himself French and joined his first band at age 13. Worked a series of jobs before and while going to college and earned a baccalaureate in French Literature before heading back to Scotland in 2000 to study History and Archeology at the University of Glasgow.

Geoff began playing piano at a young age taught by his grandmother. An orchestra
class pianist she would often play melody on a piano while Geo played bass. And of course there was the customary stint in the school orchestra playing the clarinet, which he hated. Inspired by Dire Straits, Guns and Roses and Nine Inch Nails musically Geo was also inspired by the written works of J.R.R. Tolkein whom he feels offers a great lesson in how to create a complete universe.

Geoff started playing in cover bands on a variety of different instruments.
He also contributed to a band that put together an E.P. before disbanding due to lack of motivation. In 2002 He released a self produced 6 title c.d. called Heart and Spirit. In 2005 starting out with nothing he began to use his laptop to make music and continues to use that as a tool today with the help of software sent to him by a friend in addition to the instruments he plays. He has also started a very ambitious creative commons project for which many are involved.

I honestly encourage you to check out the music/art of this dark, introspective and outer perspective provocative artist.
